It’d be fair to say that last season’s finalists Delhi Capitals have had a fairly disruptive few weeks in the run up to IPL 2021. The injury to Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel’s postive COVID-19 test and the fact that they will be without South African pace duo Rabada and Nortje mean that the resilience and depth of this Delhi squad will be tested to the full in their match vs CSK. Equally this is a side on the rise and one that has genuine ambitions of going one better in IPL 2021.

As such, the match-up in the opening game against CSK pits 2 teams travelling in opposite directions. There is no doubt that CSK have entered something of a rebuilding phase with some of the ageing stars having retired and several more in the autumn of their careers. That being said, CSK did show some form at the back end of the last IPL season and I think the fact that they’ve all but been written off for IPL 2021 before a ball has even been bowled makes them a dangerous proposition. This is still one of the best organised, coached and captained sides in the tournament and they have a huge amount of winning experience to draw upon.

As we saw from our head to head analysis of CSK vs DC, the Super Kings will certainly benefit from the fact that the Capitals will be short of several players who have good match-up records against them. As such, I think the odds of 2.3 for CSK to win this match represent pretty good value for money and I’ll be having an early bet on them at that price.

Top batsman CSK betting tips and predictions CSK vs DC

Faf du Plessis is the favourite to be CSK’s leading run scorer in this fixture. The South African opener scored more runs than any other CSK batsmen in IPL 2020 and was the top scorer in 4 of the 13 matches he played last season as such his price of 4.0 to be the highest run scorer for CSK vs DC looks good value and again, the fact that he won’t need to overcome Kagiso Rabada a bowler that he averages just 8 against in the IPL makes that price even more attractive.

Top batsman DC betting tips and predictions CSK vs DC

We saw from our head to head preview of CSK vs DC that this is a ground that new DC captain Rishabh Pant has enjoyed in the past and you can pick up a bet on him to top score for DC at odds as short as 4.5. While he is in excellent form, I’m not sure that those odds offer particularly good value for a player who usually bats outside the top 3.

Pant top scored in just 1 of DC’s matches last season which is more of a reflection on the strength of the Capitals top 3 as it was on the batsman himself. As such, I think that laying against him to be top scorer is a decent way to go

lay against Pant as top batsman @1.25 (currently unmatched)

Top bowler CSK betting tips and predictions CSK vs DC

Again, it’s very difficult to pick a winner from amongst the pack to be top bowler for CSK in this match. Ngidi finished last year strongly and I think he’ll be a force to be reckoned with in this year’s IPL but as with many of the South African players he won’t be available until next week as he completes quarantine since arriving from international duty.

In the opening 6 games of last season, CSK had a different top wicket taker in each match which shows why at least at this early stage in the season, this is probably a market to avoid and unfortunately none of the exchanges offer lines to be able to lay against.

With Rabada and Nortje both unavailable it does open the door to a few of the squad players to stake an early claim for more game time in IPL 2021 and could potentially lead to some more favourable odds on the DC top bowler market.

Sharma took 2 wickets in the powerplay in his last visit to the Wankhede

Ishant Sharma has a strike rate of just 16 at the Wankhede Stadium from his previous visits here in the IPL where the extra bounce and pace have seen him picked more often than not by his various franchises. It’s probably too early to tell whether he’ll play this time (he only made 1 appearance last season) but if he does then a bet at odds of 6.0 might not be the worst value in the world.

Live and in play betting tips CSK vs DC

Our head to head preview of CSK vs DC in IPL 2021 provides a lot useful information for those that are looking to bet live or in-play during the match.

The next batsmen out market looks attractive at the start of DC’s innings given that Deepak Chahar has had Prithvi Shaw on toast in their previous meetings. Chahar regularly bowls through the powerplay for CSK so he should get plenty of opportunity to add to the 5 times that he has dismissed Shaw in the past. By contrast, he’s only dismissed Dhawan once.

CSK have been masters of strangling the opposition in the middle overs for many years in the IPL and Ravi Jadeja has been chief amongst those bowlers. He has a particularly good record vs Steve Smith as shown below and if Dhoni can get him into the game during a period when 2 right handers are in then expect the run rate to drop.
