India vs New Zealand T20 head to head looks at the historical record of these 2 international teams in T20 matches including number of wins, highest and lowest scores and player records in IND vs NZ T20 head to head games.
The India vs New Zealand T20 head to head fixture is always a competitive one with the 2 sides having played a good number of bilateral series in recent years including a 5 match series in New Zealand during 2020. While India ran out 5-0 winners, it was certainly closer than the final score line suggests with 2 of the matches going to a super over while a couple of others were tight finishes.
Those 5 wins for India vs New Zealand off-set the Black Caps having won the first 5 meetings between these teams in T20 cricket stretching back to the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup where the Kiwi’s inflicted the only defeat of the tournament on eventual winners India.
New Zealand’s head to head T20 record in India is also pretty good particularly compared to many other sides who have struggle in sub-continent conditions with the number of New Zealanders who have plied their trade in the IPL over the years undoubtedly helping in that respect.

Highest score in an India vs New Zealand T20 match
The highest score in an India vs New Zealand T20 head to head match was made by New Zealand when they scored 219 at Wellington in the openig match of the 2019 series vs India.
Chief destroyer for the Black Caps was Tim Seifert who top scored with 84 from 43 balls at the top of the innings. He and fellow opener Colin Munro put on a stand of 86 in just over 8 overs with India’s seamers being treated with particular distain.
The slower bowlers manage to wrestle back some control for India in the middle overs and when New Zealand lost Darryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson to successive deliveries it looked like they might yet struggle at the back end of the innings. However, cameos from Ross Taylor 23 (14) and Scott Kuggeleijn 20 (7) got them to their imposing total of 219.
In response, India were bowled out for 139 on their way to suffering what was at the time India’s biggest defeat in T20 cricket.

Lowest score in an India vs New Zealand T20 match
The lowest score in India vs New Zealand T20 head to head matches was recorded by India when they were bowled out for just 79 during the 2016 World Cup.
India’s score of 79 vs New Zealand which occurred during the opening match of the 2016 T20 World Cup which India were hosting was a major shock and while taking nothing away from the performance of NZ it must to some extent be explained by the pressure that the home side were feeling to perform.
A slow Nagpur pitch didn’t help matters either with New Zealand coming into the match with only 1 recognised pace option in Adam Milne who didn’t bowl at all in the powerplay. Instead, New Zealand opted to deploy Mitch Santner and Nathan McCullum early on and they had the Indian top-order in all sorts of trouble at 26 for 4 at the end of the 5th over.
MS Dhoni attempted to play a rear guard and take his team as close as possible to New Zealand’s total of 126 but he was given no support by the lower order and when he was dismissed with India needing 47 off 14 the game was as good a done.
Santner meanwhile went onto to take 4 for 11 while Ish Sodhi and Nathan McCullum chipped in with 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
