Trent Bridge is located along the banks of the River Trent in Nottingham and regularly plays host to international T20 and 50 over cricket as well as Test Matches. The ground has a long record as a cricket venue stretching back to the 1830s and more recently was one of the stadiums used during the 2009 T20 World with 10 games including a semi-final taking part at Trent Bridge.

Since then, Trent Bridge has only been used to host one more T20 match which was way back in 2012 when a touring West Indies side played England here, a game in which Alex Hales hit a Trent Bridge T20 record 99.

The pitches in Nottingham are usually batsmen friendly and since a stadium redesign in 2007 many observers have noticed that the ball tends to swing less here than it did in the past making for some high scores in ODIs and domestic T20 cricket. Indeed, Trent Bridge is the stadium where England posted a record 481 for 6 in a 50 over match.

How long are the boundaries at Trent Bridge?

Development around the turn of the millennium has lead to Trent Bridge having some very short boundaries by T20i standards. When situated in the centre of the playing surface the hits square of the wicket are 64 metres while back over the bowlers head is 70 metres plus.

Again with pitch conditions usually in the batsmen’s favour it can make for some high scoring and while the amount of international T20 cricket played here in recent years is limited, the average score in domestic T20 cricket batting first is 170 plus.

Record highest score in a T20 match at Trent Bridge

The record for the highest score in a T20 match at Trent Bridge was set by Pakistan when they scored 232 for 6 against England in match here in 2021.

Having been sent into bat on a belter of a pitch at Trent Bridge with one particularly short boundary, Pakistan started well but took a fairly conservative approach during the first half of their innings which belied the destruction that was to follow later on.

Captain Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan put on a record partnership in T20 cricket for Pakistan vs England with 150 inside the 15th over and with so many wickets in hand the middle order had free license to entertain a packed Trent Bridge crowd with some massive hitting as Shoaib Maqsood, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammed Hafeez all played cameos that helped lift Pakistan to what was their record highest score in T20 cricket. Pakistan’s total was also a T20 record at Trent Bridge in all cricket, domestic and international, beating the 229 that Birmingham Bears had scored earlier that summer.

Record lowest score in a T20 match at Trent Bridge

The record for the lowest score in a T20 match at Trent Bridge was set by England when they were bowled out for 111 against South Africa in the 2009 World Cup.

It was a slick performance by the South Africans who as was the case in so many major tournaments looked imperious during the group stages only to falter once the knock out games came around.

In this game, England won the toss and elected to bat but found themselves in immediate trouble with openers Luke Wright and Ravi Bopara dismissed inside the first 2 overs. Kevin Pietersen attempted to counter attack but when he too was out before the conclusion of the powerplay then the hosts were forced to adopt a risk free approach.

Owais Shah and Paul Collingwood added 53 from 43 deliveries but when they attempted to accelerate the scoring then wheels really came off with England losing 5 wickets in 20 balls with only the bowlers helping them reach three figures and their record lowest total ultimately ending on the unlucky score of Nelson.

All the South African bowlers used claimed at least one wicket with Wayne Parnell leading the way with 3 for 14.

Top Score by a batsman in a T20 at Trent Bridge

The record for a top score by a batsmen at Trent Bridge in a T20 match is the 103 scored by Liam Livingstone in a match vs Pakistan in 2021.

Livingstone’s individual T20 record at Trent Bridge came in the same game that Pakistan posted the record T20 total in Nottingham. With England needing 233 to win they always needed to come out swinging and while Livingstone was at the crease they had an outside chance of pulling off what would have been a record run chase in a T20 match at Trent Bridge as well as for England as a whole.

Livingstone ultimately fell in the 17th over but by that time he had reached several milestones beyond the record score at Trent Bridge in a T20 including the fastest 50 and fastest hundred made by an England batsmen an T20 cricket from 17 and 42 balls respectively. Livingstone’s record knock at Trent Bridge included an incredible 6 x 4s and 9 x 6s.

Best bowling figures at Trent Bridge in a T20

The T20 record at Trent Bridge for the best bowling figures is held jointly by Zaheer Khan and Lendl Simmons who have both recorded 4 for 19 at this stadium.

Zaheer Khan proved far too much for Ireland in a match played in Trent Bridge as part of the 2009 T20 World Cup. The game was delayed due to rain and Zaheer made the most of the favourable conditions to blow away Ireland’s top order, taking 3 wickets in his opening 2 overs.

Lendl Simmons record as a bowler in T20 cricket is less established with the West Indian having only bowled 37 balls in his international T20 career to date. Still with a strike rate of 6.1 he has shown on more than one occasion that he has something of a golden arm and West Indies needed him in this match after Sri Lanka put on 124 for the first before Simmons dismissed the top 4 of Jayasuriya, Dilshan, Sangakkara and Jayawardene.
